President Donald Trump denied suffering from a “series of mini-strokes” on Tuesday after a new book spurred rumors about his health.

"It never ends! Now they are trying to say that your favorite President, me, went to Walter Reed Medical Center, having suffered a series of mini-strokes. Never happened to THIS candidate - FAKE NEWS," Trump tweeted.

Trump’s tweet was in response to a post from Joe Lockhart, a former White House press secretary for President Bill Clinton. Lockhart asked in a tweet if Trump had "a stroke which he is hiding from the American public."

Lockhart asked the question after a book released on Tuesday shed new light on the president’s unannounced visit to Walter Reed military hospital last November. The book, "Donald Trump v. The United States" by Michael Schmidt, claimed Vice President Mike Pence was put on standby to temporarily assume the powers of the presidency during the visit "if Trump had to undergo a procedure that would have required him to be anesthetized."

The White House said the visit was for Trump to undergo parts of his physical exam ahead of a “very busy” 2020. Schmidt’s book does not claim that Trump experienced “mini-strokes.”

Presidential physician Sean Conley on Tuesday said Trump has no major health issues.

"I can confirm that President Trump has not experienced nor been evaluated for a cerebrovascular accident (stroke), transient ischemic attack (mini stroke), or any acute cardiovascular emergencies, as have been incorrectly reported in the media," Conley said in a statement. "The President remains healthy and I have no concerns about his ability to maintain the rigorous schedule ahead of him.”

Multiple rumors have circulated about Trump’s health in recent months. During a visit to West Point Military Academy in June, the president appeared to have trouble lifting a glass of water and made a halting walk down a ramp.

Trump’s former physician, Dr. Harold Bornstein, wrote in a 2015 letter that Trump’s “physical strength and stamina are extraordinary.” Bornstein later told CNN in 2018 that Trump dictated the gushing letter.
