Truth About Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga Fighting Over Cleopatra Role Rumors
Are Angelina Jolie and Lady Gaga fighting over the role of Cleopatra in the upcoming biopic about the Egyptian queen? This is what one tabloid has claimed in a recent report, but this rumor has now been debunked.
OK! magazine released a story earlier this year claiming that Jolie and Gaga are coveting the same role. According to the outrageous report, Jolie has been linked to the project for years now, but Lady Gaga is apparently planning to steal the role for herself after the massive success of "A Star Is Born."
"Angie has wanted to work on the film for a very long time, but it looks like she’s going to have to go up against Lady Gaga for the lead," an unnamed source claimed in the report.
Lady Gaga, according to the questionable tipster, apparently wants to play Cleopatra in the upcoming biopic very badly and has a higher chance of getting the role than Brad Pitt's ex-wife. However, Jolie reportedly doesn't want to let go of the role and will not let Gaga swoop in and take it.
“Gaga feels like she’s at the perfect point in her career to tackle a role like this,” the so-called source continued. “Both ladies are prepared to try to outdo each other by any means possible."
Gossip Cop, however, has debunked these claims and confirmed the report to be nothing more than a made-up story. The outlet got confirmation from Lady Gaga's rep that the "Cleopatra" biopic wasn't even in the singer's plans for the future.
In addition, Gossip Cop noted that despite the success of "A Star Is Born," Gaga has shown no signs of abandoning her music career for a full-time job as an actress. In fact, the singer's schedule seems to be too full for her to be considering fighting over the lead role in a movie. Gaga has just started her Las Vegas residency, and she will be giving performances until November this year, according to Rolling Stone.
As for the "Cleopatra" movie, there has been no indication that filming will start anytime soon despite the project being in development for almost 10 years now. The last update on the biopic was revealed over a year ago during screenwriter David Scarpa's interview. And while he did talk about the plot and script of the biopic, he did not confirm that it is already being filmed.
