‘Truth’ About Hunter Biden’s Artwork 'Very Dangerous' For Joe's Presidency, Lara Trump Says
KEY POINTS
- Trump called Psaki's evasion of the topic 'disappointing'
- Ethics experts have previously warned that Hunter's art transactions could become a funnel for corruption
- Several politicians were seen attending Hunter Biden's private art show last week
Lara Trump, the wife of former President Donald Trump’s son Eric, on Thursday warned that the truth about Hunter Biden’s artworks could threaten Joe Biden’s presidency.
During an interview on “Fox and Friends,” Trump suggested that the facts about Hunter’s art transactions could be “very dangerous” to his father’s presidency, citing White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s attempt to seemingly evade questions about it as evidence.
“The more condescending and dismissive Jen Psaki is with her response to a reporter's question, it's probably a more important question, and probably the answer and the truth would ultimately be very damaging to Joe Biden,” Trump said.
“Very disappointing and very dangerous to see this happen,” she added.
Her remarks come after Psaki on Tuesday grew visibly irritated during her daily briefing at the White House when a reporter asked whether the people who bought the first son’s artworks will remain anonymous.
“It still is the purview of the gallerist. We still do not know and will not know who purchases any paintings. And the president remains proud of his son,” Psaki replied. “Did you have another question on something else?”
Psaki’s response has come under fire, with Lara calling it “disappointing” and “upsetting” during her Thursday interview. Walter Shaub, who previously directed the U.S. Office of Government Ethics under the Obama administration, also had the same sentiments.
“It’s disappointing to hear @jrpsaki send a message that the WH thinks the public has no right to ask about ethics,” he wrote on Twitter.
Shaub and other experts in government ethics have repeatedly warned that Hunter’s artworks, the prices of which range between $75,000 to $500,000 apiece, could likely draw attention from people hoping to curry favor with the president.
There was renewed concern last week after images posted on social media and shared with the press showed Mayor Eric Garcetti, D-LA, attending that private showing in his city. Garcetti is currently the president’s nominee to be the next U.S. ambassador to India, according to CNN.
Michael Tubbs -- special adviser to Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-CA, and former mayor of Stockholm, California -- was also seen posing with Hunter for a photo at the private art show.
