The Truth About Meghan Markle’s ‘Diva’ Pregnancy Demands
Meghan Markle has been getting a bad rep lately, and a new report claims that the Duchess has been making some very diva-like demands when it comes to how she’ll deliver her first child with Prince Harry.
According to Radar Online, the former “Suits” star has become horrified by recent reports that St. Mary’s Hospital, the home of the $10,000 a night Lindo Wing, hasn’t been dubbed as one of the cleanest hospitals in London, scoring a rating of only 2-out-of-5 in a mandatory government cleanliness test, while the health trust running Lindo failed a standards check for cleaning and disposing of hazardous and toxic materials.
Now, with those reports, Markle is reportedly insisting that certain standards be met before she decides if she will, in fact, give birth there.
“Meghan will be ordering royal lackeys to get reports on the hygiene standards, and she’ll want to ensure everything is bleached to the highest standard,” a source told Radar Online. “She is also considering bringing her own chef into the hospital to oversee preparation of her food.”
The source also claimed that the reports could persuade the Duchess of Sussex to actually make an excuse for a home birth instead, something she has allegedly had a preference for.
“But she may also use this scandal as an excuse to push for the hippy-style home birth she has wanted as soon as she got pregnant,” the source claimed. “it would be a huge break with royal tradition and will never happen as the safe delivery of her baby is considered paramount, and senior royals including the Queen would order Meghan into the Lindo to stop a home birth happening, It’s all part of the difficulties Meghan is having fitting in with the royal rules.”
However, it’s noteworthy that the report may be at least partially fabricated, because royal tradition does not actually dictate that babies must be born in the Lindo Wing, and in fact, until the last few decades, babies were traditionally born at home. According to Southern Living, Queen Elizabeth herself was both in a private home, while her sons were born in Buckingham Palace and her daughter, Princess Anne, was born at Clarence House.
In fact, the tradition was actually broken by Princess Diana, who gave birth to Princes Harry and William at the Lindo wing. Princess Anne also had her children there, as did Kate Middleton.
Logistically, a home birth would actually be theoretically easier for Markle as well. While her current residence at Kensington Palace is just a few short miles from the Lindo Wing, if she and Prince Harry are officially moved into their new home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before the birth, they will be more than 20 miles away from the hospital.
