Truth About Tom Cruise 'Grooming' 'Top Gun: Maverick' Co-Stars For Scientology
Tom Cruise has reportedly been "grooming" two of his "Top Gun: Maverick" co-stars, Miles Teller and Glenn Powell, for Scientology, one report has claimed. However, this rumor has now been debunked.
According to a false report by the Globe, Cruise is apparently recruiting two of his co-stars in the "Top Gun" sequel for the Church of Scientology, which the ex-husband of Katie Holmes has apparently been a member of for over three decades. Teller and Powell work closely with Cruise as they play fighter pilots being trained by the latter's character. Due to this, Cruise reportedly had many opportunities to tell them about Scientology teachings.
A questionable insider told Globe that Cruise reportedly even brought books about the controversial religion on the set of "Top Gun: Maverick." "[Tom] and shares his insights and revelations with them, expecting them to be bedazzled," the so-called source claimed. "He hands out books and pamphlets and it’s considered rude if you don’t take one."
The unnamed source further claimed in the Globe report that though they may be excited to work with Cruise, Teller and Powell reportedly found him "overbearing" at times. The two actors were apparently "forced" to listen to Cruise talk about Scientology's teachings.
However, Gossip Cop has proven this report to be completely false. Sources within the "Top Gun: Maverick" production confirmed to the site that there is no truth to rumors that Cruise has been recruiting his co-stars for Scientology.
The rumor-debunking site also pointed out that Cruise has been filming movies and working with hundreds of people over the years, but there is no confirmation that he has asked any of his co-stars to join the religion.
This wouldn't be the first time that Globe has claimed that Cruise was recruiting for the controversial church. Last year, there was also a report from the tabloid that the "Mission Impossible" star had invited Barbra Streisand to join Scientology. Gossip Cop had also confirmed that this was fabricated, pointing out that there has been no news of the singer-actress joining the religion.
"Top Gun: Maverick," which also stars Val Kilmer and Jennifer Connelly, is set to be released in U.S. theaters on June 26, 2020.
