Turpin Family Update: Parents Sentenced To Life For The Abuse And Torture Of Their Children
Louise and David Turpin, the parents that tortured and abused 12 of their 13 children for years, have been sentenced to life in prison. The couple pleaded guilty to 14 charges of torture, adult abuse, child endangerment, and false imprisonment.
The California couple was sentenced on Friday, where some of their children testified to the abuse. This is the first time that the children have spoken publicly about the abuse and torture they endured.
In a statement to the court, Louise apologized for hurting her children. David also gave a short statement but struggled to get the words out as his children watched on.
One of the Turpin daughters cried while testifying saying, “My parents took my whole life from me but now I'm taking my life back."
When authorities arrived at the home of the Turpin family, many of the children were shackled to their beds.
The Turpins will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years of their sentence. The torture and abuse by Louise and David was exposed when one of their 17-year-old daughters escaped through a window and called 911 for help.
