The Black Friday rush did nothing to stop Twi-hards who helped land The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1 at the top of the box office on Black Friday with $16.9 million.

The movie is now on the path to making $40 million over a three-day weekend and $65 million over the five-day frame. Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has raked in $196.2 million after eight days.

Last Friday, the vampire love story of Bella and Edward grossed an estimated $71.4 million. Breaking Dawn - Part 1 is the franchise's second best opening. The second film New Moon, grossed $142.8 million in the three-day opening weekend in 2009.

Birthing Scene Causing Seizures

But it seems that some Twi-hards cannot handle the much anticipated birth scene in which Bella Swan delivers her baby amidst flashing red, black, and white images. There have been reports that the intense scene in the latest installment has led to viewers having seizures across the country.

It's like a light switch going off, because it hits your brain all at once, Dr. Michael G. Chez, the medical director of pediatric neurology and epilepsy for Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, Calif., told CBS Sacramento.

Brandon Gephart was watching Breaking Dawn Part One with his girlfriend when she said he had a seizure during the birthing scene with the flashing lights. The phenomenon has been described as photosensitive epilepsy.

And so I kinda sat up, and next thing I know, I'm waking up to everyone shaking me, everyone in the theater is looking at me, Gephart told the media.

The final chapter in the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn - Part 2, is set to come out Nov. 16, 2012.
