‘Twilight’ Fans React To ‘Midnight Sun’ Announcement And Imagine Robert Pattinson’s Reaction
“Twilight” fans who were around in 2008 will recall the drama surrounding “Midnight Sun.” Author Stephenie Meyer announced she was writing a retelling of the first novel from Edward Cullen’s perspective but suddenly said it wouldn’t be coming out any time soon. After 12 years, she is finally ready to revisit the Cullens.
“I know there are people who have been patiently waiting, so kindly, and I felt like I owed it to them to put it out as soon as I could,” Meyer told USA Today.
“Midnight Sun” will release Aug. 4. It will be published by Hachette Book Group and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers.
Fans immediately took to Twitter to share their shock and excitement. Though it’s been 12 years since the books wrapped up in 2008 and the final movie was released 8 years ago in 2012, the Twi-Hards are still excited to return to Forks, Washington.

It wasn’t just excitement for the "Twilight" companion book, though. Others immediately imagined the reaction of actor Robert Pattinson, who played Edward Cullen in all five “Twilight Saga” films. He’s expected to be on a major press tour next year with “The Batman,” where he’ll play the Dark Knight, and many are already anticipating Pattinson being asked about the Edward-focused book. Some even think he should read the audiobook.

“Midnight Sun” was first announced over a decade ago. An incomplete draft was leaked online, and Meyer decided that the project would have to be paused. “I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on ‘Midnight Sun,’ and so it is on hold indefinitely,” she announced at the time, according to Entertainment Weekly. She apparently has been working on the project on and off for 14 years.
“Twilight” isn’t the only series making a comeback in 2020. “The Hunger Games” is also releasing a new book, a President Snow-focused prequel titled “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” out May 19. Lionsgate has already commissioned a movie for it, but it seems unlikely that the same would be done for “Midnight Sun.” Meyer said most of the book follows the same events as “Twilight,” with the exception of the period of time where Edward and Bella are separated.
"Midnight Sun" will be available in both physical and digital formats wherever books are sold on Aug. 4.
