Michelle Obama is calling on the people of Georgia to turn out and vote in the Senate runoff election Tuesday, reminding them that their voice matters.
In a series of tweets Monday, the former first lady stressed the importance of the two runoff elections this Tuesday as she asked Americans not to settle into complacency.
"Your vote is your voice. It’s your power. And right now, from the President of the United States on down, we’re seeing and hearing just how desperate some are to take that power away. They want us to believe that their pride is more important than our democracy," she wrote, adding, "we can’t just vote for President and think that our job is done."
She continued, "Because in America, everyone’s voice matters. And that’s still the truth, no matter what some folks want you to believe."
Obama's Twitter posts received mixed responses from social media users, with some appearing deeply skeptical about her message.
"Nice ideal but untrue and you know it," one commented, while another added, "Not really..."
"Because in America every vote matters. So vote for who I tell you to vote for?" a third user wrote.
Amid the objections, others showered Obama with praise.
"Your grace, intelligence and beautiful spirit always shine through. Thank you, my favorite FIRST LADY, for continuing to inspire," one wrote.
"Just love who you are Michelle. I watched the first ladies documentary and it did not do you justice or honor your contribution enough.. I read your book too. You are wonderful, successful, beautiful and such a role model as a mom, wife and friend. Thank you for your service," a second supporter commented.
"What an inspiration you are, Mrs. Obama. Easily explained. There is a clear choice," another added.
Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will face GOP incumbents Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, respectively, on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Obama also made an appearance at the star-studded “Celebrate Georgia!” drive-in concert event Sunday. The event featured performances from artists Monica, Rick Ross and Jeezy, while rapper Common, actress Tracee Ellis Ross and NBA player Chris Paul appeared via video.
