Beyoncé broke records Sunday after her Grammy wins, making her the artist with the most Grammy awards. But she missed her first award due to traffic.
Beyoncé earned nine nominations at the Grammys 2023. She won Best R&B Song but wasn't around to accept the award. Terius Nash and Nile Rodger rushed to the stage to accept the award on her behalf.
Nash briefly thanked the crowd in a censored speech. However, host Trevor Noah offered an explanation why Beyoncé wasn't able to get the award, Page Six reported.
"So for real, Beyoncé is on her way. The upside of hosting the Grammys in LA is that everyone can be here, the downside of hosting the Grammys in LA is the traffic," he said.
He explained that Beyoncé was tied with Georg Solti for the most Grammys of all time following her win.
Meanwhile, Twitter users shared hilarious reactions after learning that the "Lemonade" singer got stuck in traffic. Many shared funny memes, while others alleged that maybe she didn't want to accept the award for some reason.
"I think she didn't want to get up there for the 1st Grammy win because that was only a tie for the most Grammys. She wanted to wait till she actually broke the record," one wrote.
"She getting ready for her performance," another commented.
Philip Lewis shared a clip of Beyoncé at the Grammy's after being late. "Beyoncé made it out of traffic yall," he tweeted.
In the video, Noah was seen giving the singer her trophy while joking, "I was shocked to find out traffic that had stuck you, I thought you traveled through space and time, but I'm glad you could be with us right now."
Beyoncé won another Grammy later in the evening for her 2022 record "Renaissance," breaking Solti's record. With 32 Grammys, Beyoncé became the artist with the most Grammy wins, according to Grammy.
"I'm trying not to be too emotional, and I'm trying to just receive this night," she said when she received her second award at the ceremony, Variety reported. "I want to thank God for protecting me. ... I'd like to thank my uncle Johnny, who's not here, but he's here in spirit."
She also thanked her husband, Jay-Z, and their three children before acknowledging the queer community. "I'd like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre," she added.
