  • Meghan Markle allegedly made 13 holidays but claimed she had no access to her passport
  • Twitter users accused Markle of lying because she was able to travel despite her claim
  • Several netizens defended the duchess because most of the trips were royal engagements

Some Twitter users did not believe that Meghan Markle had no access to her passport when she was working for the royal family because she made several trips abroad.

The Duchess of Sussex told Oprah Winfrey that her keys and passport were taken away when she was with the royals. However, a report from The Sun said it didn't add up because Prince Harry and Markle allegedly enjoyed 13 holidays together after they started dating. Their trips included visits to New York, Ibiza, Botswana, Italy, Amsterdam and more.

The report prompted several reactions from Twitter users who have mixed opinions on the issue. Some slammed the couple because they believed Markle's claim wasn't true.

"Ha ha....such a hardship 13 overseas holidays in 18 months on the job," one wrote.

"Ohhh i am so ready to watch her lies crumble!!!" another added.

"Seems both of them seem to have a bit of trouble remembering the truth short memories I suppose," a third user added.

"I really hope that her lies will come to light real soon. I’ve never seen her in 'suits' but she played a blinding role in the interview. 'Poor me character' was amazing and ALMOST convincing. ALMOST!!" a fourth netizen wrote.

"So the markles went on 13 foreign holidays, how did they do that without a passport? Why did Harry not get help for meghan’s mental health problems? Harley Street was just round the corner," another added.

A number of netizens also defended Markle. They believed that the trips were possible because Markle probably had to ask permission to have her passport back in order to travel. Some also speculated that the royal family arranged their trips. Meanwhile, others questioned the number of holiday trips reported because some of the visits were not vacations but royal engagements.

"That’s a lie it was four holidays [the] rest were foreign tours not holidays," one commented.

"Ok? This doesn't mean it wasn't taken off her. Most likely that she had to get permission to go somewhere and have her passport back," a second user wrote.

"How exactly do you know and are confident enough to share it with the world that she took 13 holidays: not 17 or 9, but 13. Does that not smack of 'hounding'/ 'spying' as you did with Diana? Why not track, name and shame paedophiles instead. Could it be that their tentacles bite!!" one asked.

"Well, they probably gave her back the passport for those working tours. I would think the Firm would handle travel arrangements before the Sussexes left to represent the Queen in other countries. Your headline is purposely misleading. #HarryandMeghan," another commented on the report.

Royal experts addressed the issue saying that it’s a protocol for Markle’s security. However, the duchess could access her passport if she really wanted to.

"Sounds as if it fitted Meghan’s narrative of being trapped and isolated, but really was routine, and probably anything would be accessible to her if she wanted it," said Robert Finch, who chairs the pro-monarchy group The Monarchist League of Canada.
