Twitter Reacts To Claim Prince William 'Threw Harry Out' Over Meghan Bullying Allegations
KEY POINTS
- A new book claimed William initiated the separation of his and Harry's households after Meghan Markle was accused of bullying
- Some Twitter users were glad another side of the story is being told
- Others appeared skeptical of the book's claims
Twitter users have weighed in on bombshell claims made by historian Robert Lacey in his new book, including that Prince William "threw out" Prince Harry after bullying claims against Meghan Markle surfaced.
In the excerpt published by The Times U.K. of Lacey's "Battle of Brothers," out Thursday, the biographer claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry had a "fierce and bitter showdown" after former communications secretary Jason Knauf informed the former of complaints by palace staffers against Markle.
Prince Harry defended his wife and was "furious" when his brother believed the staffers over his family, according to Lacey. Prince William then initiated the division of their households as he "wished to be separated from Meghan," the author claimed.
Social media users had mixed opinions about Lacey's book, with some saying they were glad that another side to the brothers' feud was being told, while others appeared skeptical of his claims.
"I’m happy to see another side to this disturbing story. It’s ridiculous to think jealousy towards Harry and Megan would be an explanation. They aren’t two year olds. They seem to take their roles very seriously and, in my opinion, deserve respect," one commented.
"Well done Prince William," another wrote.
"PW has only done what most would do! Get rid of any person who is toxic and causing a divide! Wouldn’t we all have done the same to protect our family! Glad he gave them the boot up the arse and out the door," another netizen added.
"This article sounds accurate to me from what we've heard for yrs now. William's angry, but continues his job quietly. H&M have been making accusations for yrs now. The RF can't respond in kind. Thankfully an actual witness to Meghan's behavior, Jason Knauf, was keeping notes," a fourth user wrote.
Some Twitter users defended the Sussexes, pointing out that everyone should take the claims in the book with a grain of salt. Others praised the Duke of Sussex for standing by his own family no matter what.
"Do not believe most of what you read or see on the media. That goes double for the vile Sun," one commented, while a second user wrote, "Just because it's written in a book it doesn't mean it's True."
"Here's what I think. William and Kate were jealous of Meghan and Harry getting attention. I would be jealous. So they tried to undermine them. (I wouldn't do that but I'm not a princess.) The end. Try to be kind and gracious, everyone," a third user added.
"I equally love that Harry has set his own course and is directing his and his family’s life. God bless them all-Harry, Meghan, Archie, and sweet baby Lilibet," another wrote.
Some questioned Lacey's work, with one person writing, "Lacey’s book was wonderful and insightful a few months ago but now with this excerpt it’s suddenly 'lies.' You can’t have it both ways and you only look foolish now trying to discount what you previously held as truth."
A representative for Markle previously denied the bullying allegations in March, claiming they were part of "a calculated smear campaign based on misleading and harmful misinformation."
"The Duchess is saddened by this latest attack on her character, particularly as someone who has been the target of bullying herself and is deeply committed to supporting those who have experienced pain and trauma," the rep said in a statement to outlets.
Two months after the claims were published by The Times, Knauf stepped down from his role as CEO of the Royal Foundation in May, Us Weekly previously reported.
