  • Some fans expressed their support for Trump and came to her defense

Melania Trump has shared a thoughtful message for her followers on social media for 2021, just weeks before her husband President Donald Trump is set to leave office.

On Friday, the first lady took to Twitter to wish everyone a Happy New Year and share her wishes to all for 2021.

"Wishing everyone a #HappyNewYear! May 2021 be filled with the blessings of joy, good health & peace throughout the year!" she wrote.

However, Melania's message was met with criticism and mockery on Twitter, with some expressing excitement for her and her husband's departure from the White House following President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Jan. 20.

"Joy? January 20 will bring joy to millions! Health? 350000+ dead cannot be reached for comment," one commented. "Seriously, you should stop tweeting intern, this message is disgusting."

"Thank you! BTW, who are you again? 2021 is going to be a wonderful year. I hear there is a new, competent President & VP starting soon. AND, the legal & health systems are going to start working for EVERYBODY again! Be best!" another commented.

"Wishing you a quick exit from The People's House so we can restore its beauty and integrity," a third user wrote, while another added, "Get off Twitter and get packing!"

Others showed support for the FLOTUS and wished her well as the end of her husband's term approaches.

"I’ve never been to the US but I simply admire your composure. In all these battle for political survival, my thoughts always have been about you. If not for nothing at all, you have been extremely amazing being the First Lady of such a great country. Happy new year to you," one commented.

"Melania, I am so very sorry and disappointed at the hateful remarks some people make. I think you are among the sweetest and most kind ladies to occupy the Whitehouse! God bless you and our President," another added.

"Thank you Melania. I hope we keep hearing how you are doing once your White House adventure is over with. I thought you were a great First Lady. You displayed a lot of dignity and class without being political, which is what First Ladies are suppose to do," a third user wrote.

Melania's greeting comes a few days after she and President Trump shared a video in which they wished everyone a "very merry Christmas."

In the video, which was posted on their respective social media accounts, Trump called the development of the COVID-19 vaccine a "Christmas miracle." He and his wife also acknowledged the contributions of everyone involved in the creation of the vaccine and said they were inspired by the kindness and courage of American citizens.

"Teachers have worked extraordinarily hard to keep our students learning, students have delivered groceries to elderly neighbors, communities have found new ways to stay connected to one another," Melania said. "Courageous first responders, doctors and nurses, have given everything to save lives. Brilliant scientists have developed treatments and vaccines."

"We are grateful for all of the scientists, researchers, manufacturing workers and service members who have worked tirelessly to make this breakthrough possible. It is truly a Christmas miracle," President Trump said.
