President Joe Biden has been accused of plagiarism over his inaugural address, and a number of social media users have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the allegation.
Fox News host Jesse Watters claimed in the latest episode of "Watters' World" that Biden allegedly plagiarized former President Bill Clinton in his inaugural address. He shared clips from Clinton's speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and Biden's Jan. 20 address.
"The world over has always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power," Clinton said in his speech.
Biden said: "We will lead not merely by the example of our power, but by the power of our example."
The video received mixed responses from netizens, with some criticizing Biden and bringing up past allegations of plagiarism.
"Joe Biden caught plagiarizing his Inaugural Address in 2021 and gets a free pass. In 1988 Joe Biden was forced to withdraw from the Presidential race after being caught plagiarizing speeches and lying of his academic record. #JoeBiden is a LIAR," one person tweeted.
"Because all @JoeBiden can really do is plagiarize or go back and undo what others have already do. #NotLeading," another wrote.
"Hey great speech Joe, you just plagiarize that word for word From Bill Clinton," a third user wrote.
Another mocked the president, tweeting, "If Joe Biden can't plagiarize it. It won't get done."
Other Twitter users came to Biden's defense, with one person saying the line the president was accused of plagiarizing is a "widely quoted expression."
"That’s a line he‘s used in interviews & on the campaign trail, as have others. It’s a widely quoted expression, not an example of plagiarism. In your quest to keep your viewers angry, as per your mandate, you’ve elevated pettiness to the level of journalism," the Twitter user said.
Some laid the blame on his speechwriter. "So his writers are lazy? How much input does Biden have with writing any of it? I doubt Biden said to his people go copy so and sos speech," one wrote.
"Joe didn’t plagiarize his speech - he had not a clue what he was saying. His writers plagiarized it," another opined.
Meanwhile, other Twitter users poked fun at the media coverage of Biden and former President Barack Obama, with one saying, "OMG! Was he wearing a Rolex and tan suit when he did it?"
