Twitter Users Want Barack Obama Back As President Amid Donald Trump Jr's Russian Controversy
Amidst the controversies surrounding President Donald Trump's administration, the hash tag “Bring Back Obama” started to trend on Twitter around 6:14 a.m. EDT on Wednesday. The hash tag was started by Michael Skolnik, who had also started the viral “#ObamaAndKids” in the past. Under the current hash tag, Skolnik has called for people to post their favorite moments of former President Barack Obama
There was no apparent reason for the hash tag to trend except the fact that members of Trump’s administration seem to become increasingly embroiled with each passing day in allegations of colluding with Russians and influencing the outcome of the 2016 presidential election. The latest in the string of allegations has been brought against the president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., who reportedly met a Russian lawyer in June 2016, when the election process was going on.
This seems to have triggered a nostalgia for the administration under Obama, which was relatively free from controversies.

It is common knowledge that Obama cannot run for a third term as he has already served the maximum of two terms that a president of the United States is allowed. According to Cornell Law School, 22nd Amendment, and Section I of the Constitution states:
“No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once. But this article shall not apply to any person holding the office of President when this article was proposed by the Congress, and shall not prevent any person who may be holding the office of President, or acting as President, during the term within which this article becomes operative from holding the office of President or acting as President during the remainder of such term.”
There has never been an exception to the law put in place by the amendment in the history of the country, which means that no U.S. president has ever served more than two terms. Nevertheless, a petition was filed in Change.org in January 2017 that called for the 22nd Amendment to be repealed so that Obama could become president again, iterating the fact that Americans wanted the former president to lead then again.
Apart from that, several polls and surveys conducted a few months after President Trump took office proved that Obama’s popularity had not diminished among the masses even after he retired from the presidential office. According to the results of a poll conducted by Public Policy Polling in Feb. 2, 2017, 52 percent of the voters wanted Obama to make a comeback, while only 43 percent of the participants were happy that Trump was president.
When it became clear that Obama could not run for the presidential office anymore, people of the U.S. called for his wife Michelle Obama to run as a candidate in the 2020 election instead. However, the former first lady made it clear at the time that she does not wish to run for president and instead wished to focus on spending more time with her husband and kids.
“This is hard, it's a hard job … When you run, your kids lives stop. The next family that comes in here, every person in that family - every child, every grandchild - their lives will be turned upside down in a way that no American really understands,” Michelle said on the Oprah Winfrey Show, back in December 2016, Independent reported.
Regardless, the fact that “#BringBackObama” is trending on the second spot on Twitter does imply that people of the country still love their former POTUS, months after him having left the Oval Office.
