Two Brands Of Dog Food Recalled: How Can You Get A Refund?

Two dog food brands, Natural Life Pet Products and Nutrisca, have recalled dog food products, and pet owners affected are eligible to receive a refund. Both recalls are voluntary and being done in coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Natural Life Pet Products has recalled its Natural Life Chicken & Potato dry dog food because it contains high levels of vitamin D. The 17.5-pound bags being recalled have a UPC of 0-12344-08175-1 and a best buy date of May 29, 2020 through Aug. 10, 2020. The best buy code is found on the back or bottom of the dog food bag.

The affected Natural Life Pet Products’ Chicken & Potato dry dog food was distributed in stores throughout Georgia, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and California.

Nutrisca has also recalled one formula of its dry food in several different bag sizes also because of elevated vitamin D levels. The recall affects 4, 15 and 28-pound bags of the Nutrisca Chicken and Chickpea dry dog food. UPC codes on the bags are 8-84244-12495-7, 8-84244-12795-8, and 8-84244-12895-5, respectively.

All three bag quantities have a best by date of Feb. 25, 2020, through Sept. 13, 2020. The best buy date code is found at the back or bottom of the bag. The Nutrisca Chicken and Chickpea dry dog food was distributed at retail stores nationwide.

Both brands have instructed dog owners that purchased the affected dog food to dispose of it and stop feeding it to their animals. Pet owners can receive a full refund for the dog food by returning it to the retailer they purchased it from.

Elevated amounts of vitamin D can cause vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss, according to the company. It can also cause renal dysfunction in dogs. If a dog is exhibiting any of these symptoms, owners are advised to seek medical assistance from a vet.

Natural Life Pet Products and Nutrisca became aware of the issue after receiving complaints from three different pet owners about vitamin D toxicity in their dogs after consuming the dog food. An investigation was conducted that revealed that there was a formulation error that increased the levels of vitamin D in the dog foods.
