Two women are dead and one teenage boy is reported missing after rain inundated San Antonio Saturday, causing unexpected flash floods. The city reports emergency workers rescued at least 235 people stranded in their cars and some floating on inflatable rafts.

San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro asked residents to stay off roads as 24 Texas counties were under flash flood warnings on Saturday. The city’s airport recorded 10 inches of rainfall in a few hours.

One of the women who died was trapped by water in her car, eventually climbing onto the roof before being swept away by the flooding, according to Christian Bove, a San Antonio Fire Department spokesperson. The other was a woman in her 60’s who was taken away by floodwaters as firefighters attempted to rescue her.

The flash flood threat will continue until late morning Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Rain has stranded more than 200 people in San Antonio, in cars and houses where the water level was over four feet in places.
