Dr Margaret Gollagher and Associate Professor Dr Brian Nook were announced the winners of the $5000 professional development scholarships at an awards breakfast at the Art Gallery of WA this morning.

Dr Gollagher is a lecturer and researcher in Sustainability at the School of Sustainability and the Institute for Sustainability and Technology Policy and Dr Nook is Associate Professor and Dean of the School of Chiropractic and Sports Science.

As a member of the Greening Industry Network (GIN), she plans to use her scholarship to attend the Climate Change and Green Growth: Innovating for Sustainability Conference in South Korea in June where she will canvas support for Perth to host the GIN annual meeting in 2011 or 2012.

Dr Nook has been First Vice President of the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic since 1996 and has been accredited as a team physician at four Olympic Games, two World Games and multiple international and national sporting events.

He plans to use his scholarship to attend the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic Annual General Meeting in London later this month and the World Federation of Chiropractic Educational Symposium in Madrid in October where he will be presenting a number of papers.

At both these conferences he aims to promote the groundbreaking programs of Murdoch's School of Chiropractic and Sports Science and push for Perth to host a future meeting of the International Federation of Sports Chiropractic, potentially combined with a World Federation of Chiropractic Educational Symposium.

The scholarships are offered annually as part of the Perth Convention Bureau's professional development scholarship program.

Bureau Managing Director Christine McLean said that since being launched in 1999, the scholarship program had been responsible for generating convention business worth more than $50 million for the Western Australian economy.
