Two Planes Clip: Passenger Jets Clip While Taxiing For Takeoff At Newark Liberty International Airport [VIDEO]
Two passenger jets clipped each other Wednesday night while preparing to take off from the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport.
Scandinavian Airlines Flight 908, headed to Oslo, clipped its left wing against the tail of ExpressJet Flight 4226, which was going to Nashville, officials said. The planes were taxiing for departure shortly before 7:30 p.m.
NBC News Chopper 4 New York caught video footage of the accident, which is under investigation. No injuries were reported.
The ExpressJet was towed back to the gate while the Scandinavian plane taxied back to the gate.
In a statement, ExpressJet said it's “working in coordination with officials to determine a cause” for the accident. All 31 passengers on the plane were reaccommodated, the airline said.
Scandinavian Airlines, which has hubs in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, hasn't commented on the accident. ExpressJet operates as a regional United Express partner from United's Newark, N.J., hub. United, based in Chicago, is part of United Continental Holdings Inc.
