  • McIntyre recently made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble

The WWE Company is reportedly grooming Drew McIntyre to face off against Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

WWE is planning to protect the Scottish Warrior heavily before he takes on Reigns down the line, reported Wrestling Observer Radio Journalist Dave Meltzer.

"They like him, and he's being groomed for Roman Reigns. It's down the line. So, the people who are groomed for Roman Reigns are going to be protected until they get to Roman Reigns," said Meltzer, according to Sportskeeda.

McIntyre, who has been recovering from a neck injury, recently made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble. However, the two-time WWE Champion is "still not 100%" fit.

The Scottish Warrior is scheduled to fight the Madcap Moss at the Elimination Chamber and Happy Corbin at WrestleMania 38.

"He's not 100%. He's going to do TVs, he's not going to do house shows for now. He's still working on rehab, it's not like he's fixed or anything. But, you know, he is back on TV which, I mean, he'll do the match with Moss in Saudi Arabia and probably wrestle Corbin at WrestleMania most likely and I'm going to guess that he'll probably run through them," said Meltzer, according to Ringside News.

Meanwhile, Reigns is scheduled to fight former Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg at the Elimination Chamber. The WWE event will take place later this month at the Jeddah Superdome, Saudi Arabia.

It was earlier reported that Goldberg has only one match remaining on his WWE contract, which apparently would end after the fight against Reigns.

The last time Goldberg competed inside the squared circle was in October last year at Crown Jewel, where he won against Bobby Lashley.

The Elimination Chamber is set to have a few other mouth-watering fights as well, including Brock Lesnar taking on Lashley for the WWE Championship title.

Lashley defeated Lesnar at the recently ended Royal Rumble to win his second WWE Championship title.
