Yellow Patches

According to a report in Express, high levels of sugar in the blood could affect the skin. This means that the condition has gone undiagnosed for quite some time.

The American Academy of Dermatology revealed that one of the signs on the skin that would appear around the eyelids would be yellow scaly patches. This condition is scientifically called xanthelasma. This is the result of having too much fat in the blood. Health experts reveal that poorly controlled diabetes could result in xanthelasma. Other areas where the yellow scaly patches could appear includes the neck, underarms, and shoulders.

There are cases when the development of xanthelasma has something to do with the genes and can be attributed to high cholesterol. Other conditions that could give rise to the development of these scaly yellow patches include obesity, pregnancy, and diabetes. This is why if you are neither pregnant nor obese and you develop xanthelasma, better have your blood sugar levels checked.

More Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes

Aside from the yellow scaly patches, there are other symptoms that you have to know. According to NHS, diabetes symptoms would also include peeing more than usual, especially during nighttime. You may also feel very tired and thirsty most of the time. Others would lose weight even without trying. For women, feeling itchiness around the vaginal area is also common.

Type 2 diabetes may be a chronic condition, however, it can be controlled. In addition, if you notice any of these symptoms, better have your blood sugar levels checked. Early detection of the condition could mean early treatment as well.
