Ubaldo, Rockies goes out for a Four-Year Deal
Colorado Rockies and Ubaldo Jimenez have agreed on a four-year deal, the Right-handed pitcher Ubaldo signed a four-year contract with club options for 2013 and 2014.
This deal will cover his first two years of arbitration in 2011 and 2012. As a result, it's probably not worth more than $10 million
Ubaldo, 25, went 12-12 with a 3.99 ERA in 34 starts last season -- his first in the Majors. His 172 strikeouts were the most by a Rockies pitcher since Pedro Astacio whiffed 193 in 2000 and in 2008, Heled all Rockies pitchers in starts and in strikeouts (172), the most by any Rockies pitcher since 2000 when Pedro Astacio fanned 193.
Ubaldo was named to the Dominican Republic provisional roster earlier this month for the World Baseball Classic in March. His 12 victories ranked second on the Rockies pitching staff in 2008, and he joined Aaron Cook as one of only two starters in team history to win more than 10 games and post a sub-4.00 ERA in the same season.
