Uber Eats announced Tuesday that it can now deliver cannabis with its app delivery service in Toronto through a collaboration with Leafly, a cannabis website.

The service is a first for Uber. It will allow customers to order various types of legal cannabis products to be delivered straight to their door just as Uber Eats works with food deliveries. It is not available for customers under the age of 19.

"It marks not only a new milestone for Leafly, but a huge milestone for the cannabis industry," Dave Cotter, Leafly's chief product officer, told GeekWire.

Lola Kassim, General Manager of Uber Eats Canada, said in a press release that a goal of the new service is to help reduce impaired driving and lessen illegal sales.

"We are partnering with industry leaders like Leafly to help retailers offer safe, convenient options for people in Toronto to purchase legal cannabis for delivery to their homes, which will help combat the illegal market and help reduce impaired driving," Kassim said.

There is a "cannabis" category in the Uber Eats app that shows up for users in the Toronto area. It shows a page with all the different cannabis retailers in the delivery radius and their menus.
