Uber News: Ridesharing Company Could Expand Uber Eats Delivery Service To Retail Businesses, CEO Says
Uber Technologies Inc. CEO Dana Khosrowshahi said Wednesday that the company could expand its Uber Eats delivery service to retail businesses.
“We can extend that (food delivery) model to essentially every single local retailer, so that anything you want in New York City can be delivered to you, hopefully in under 30 minutes," Khosrowshahi said at a meeting at the Economic Club in New York.
In October, Uber bought Chile-based startup Cornershop, with Uber saying that the acquisition would "bring grocery delivery to millions of consumers on the Uber platform."
Other companies are also expanding their grocery delivery operations, with Walmart even having delivery workers drop off orders inside the recipient's fridge. The service, called Inhome Delivery, officially launched in Kansas City (Missouri and Kansas), Pittsburgh and Vero Beach, Florida in October.
E-commerce company Amazon also operates its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service in some U.S. states. The service can deliver groceries on the same day or the next day.
In some parts of the U.S., delivery can be done in as a little as two hours, with Amazon making this speedy delivery service free for Amazon Prime Members.
