Ubisoft Announces ‘South Park: Phone Destroyer’ For iOS, Android Devices
Ubisoft’s “South Park: The Fractured But Whole” isn’t the only game that the studio will be releasing that’s based on the animated series. The studio announced during its E3 2017 keynote that it will also be releasing “South Park: Phone Destroyer” for smartphones later this year.
“South Park: Phone Destroyer” is a mobile card collection game that features real-time battles featuring the characters from “South Park.” Although its battle gameplay resembles “The Stick of Truth” and “The Fractured But Whole,” “Phone Destroyer” will be a standalone game for iOS and Android devices. “South Park: Phone Destroyer” is being developed by South Park Digital Studios and Ubisoft Studio’s RedLynx.
The game features “South Park” characters in some of their “Stick of Truth” personas, while also introducing new types of characters. Players will once again take the role of the “new kid” where they can assemble a team of “cowboys, wizards, cyborgs and more” to take part in PvP battles.
“South Park: Phone Destroyer” will be free to play, but will feature some micro transactions. “Everything can be earned in the game without paying, but you can choose to spend real world money if you wish,” the developer said on the game’s website. “The game is designed so that nothing is ever locked behind a paywall. Everything in the game is available to all players as they progress, whether they choose to spend real-world money or not.”
Ubisoft hasn’t revealed an exact release date for “South Park: Phone Destroyer,” but it will be out later this year for iOS and Android devices.
In related news, Ubisoft has finally confirmed that “South Park: The Fractured But Whole” will be released on Oct. 17, 2017 after a series of delays. The direct sequel to 2014’s “Stick of Truth” was first announced in June 2015. At E3 2016, the game was slated to be released on Dec. 6 2016.
“South Park: The Fractured But Whole” was then delayed to a first quarter 2017 release date. At the time, Ubisoft said that its developers needed more time to make the game so that it “meets the high expectations of fans.”
By February 2017, Ubisoft delayed the release of the game once again. This time, “The Fractured But Whole” had a release window for Ubisoft’s 2018 fiscal year (April 2017 - March 2018). It’s good to know that the game will be out this October, since some were already worried that it might be pushed back to March 2018. However, that can still be possible if Ubisoft decides to delay the game again.
Alongside the announcement of the new release date, Ubisoft also shared a brand new trailer for “South Park: The Fractured But Whole” during its E3 2017 keynote. The trailer featured more of the game’s story elements which involves Cartman’s superhero team, Coon and Friends, battling Kenny’s team called The Freedom Pals.
Ubisoft is still offering “The Stick of Truth” as a free downloadable game for everyone who buys “The Fractured But Whole” for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC.
