Ubisoft Hints At ‘Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time’ Remake
KEY POINTS
- Ubisoft is working on a "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" remake
- The rumor was first reported earlier this year
- A banner from a Russian UPlay post confirmed the news
- A Guatemalan retailer also hinted on the game's remake in August
News about a potential “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” remake making an appearance at Ubisoft’s Forward event was teased earlier this month after rumors about a new title began to circulate online.
Several Ubisoft retailers have joined the fray in anticipation of a new “Prince of Persia” game. At one point, Canadian, French and American retailers forwarded juicy hints, with Guatemalan retailer Max posted two “curious listings” for a remake for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
The post was since taken down, but Twitter user KenXyro was able to grab a couple of screenshots. The listing also had a supposed November release, said VG 24/7.
Early speculations suggested that Ubisoft was working on a remake of the original “Prince of Persia.” It was only recently that it pointed to “The Sands of Time” courtesy of ResetEra member AndrewDTF who spotted a Russian UPlay post of what would eventually be the first of many snippets of the next-generation title.
It wasn’t the teaser fans had expected, but at least it had the confirmation in the title that a remake is very much underway. To say the least, the banner – which was then accompanied by a brief video – didn’t look like it was made for upcoming consoles like the PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series S. But then again, it’s too early to tell what Ubisoft has under its sleeve.
Another hint on the game’s remake was discovered by fans in a promo image of Ubisoft for their Forward event. An image on the top left portion showed one of the game’s original puzzles. This gave them another spark to speculate that the studio is working on a PoP game, said VG 24/7 in a separate article.
Aside from “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,” Ubisoft’s Forward will give details on upcoming games such as “Watch Dogs: Legion,” “Hyper-Scape” and “Rainbow Six Siege.” The French video game studio will also give an update on its new IP, “Immortals Fenyx Rising” and more “yet-to-be-revealed surprises.”
“Sands of Time” was first released in November 2003 as a third-person action-adventure puzzle platform game for the Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox and PC.
