Ubisoft Set To Reveal Rumored 'Call Of Duty'-Style F2P Game Soon
KEY POINTS
- Ubisoft teased a new project involving the Tom Clancy universe of games
- The project is assumed to be "BattleCat," a leaked Ubisoft FPS project
- The game is rumored to be a free-to-play title
Ubisoft will be releasing a new multiplayer FPS game set in the Tom Clancy universe, confirming previous leaks.
The company’s official Twitter account teased the new game’s reveal date, which is due later this Monday.
The Tom Clancy logo can be seen on the teaser slowly getting distorted into a vandalized version with images of graffiti and street art, implying that the game may have less strict military themes. Games set in the Tom Clancy universe, like “Splinter Cell,” “Rainbow Six” and “Ghost Recon,” are often set in scenarios involving counter-terrorism, political disputes and espionage.
A number of clips were reportedly sent to some outlets, including IGN. The outlet posted a 25-second clip that showcased the new game’s setting and overall tone.
Based on the clip, the game appears to be set in a semi-futuristic modern world similar to “Watch Dogs.” A player can be seen wielding a firearm in the AK family of guns as well as a tool that fires a one-sided shield that enemies cannot shoot through.
The UI elements seen in the clip are very reminiscent of “Overwatch,” suggesting that this new IP may be a hero shooter.
Other clips shared online featured more gadgets, such as a tool that rendered players completely invisible and a sonar grenade. The overall layout of the maps, the gunplay and the apparent run-and-gun nature are very reminiscent of classic “Call Of Duty” game modes.
This new game was previously leaked as “BattleCat,” which is described as a hero shooter that features a variety of factions from the Tom Clancy games, according to Polygon. The game will allegedly feature the Cleaners from “The Division,” the Wolves from “Ghost Recon Breakpoint” and the Echelon network from the “Splinter Cell” series.
Players speculated that this new IP will be free-to-play based on Ubisoft’s push for a more sustainable and persistent business model for their games. Such moves were also made for the new “Assassin’s Creed Infinity” project as well as the upcoming “The Division: Heartland” games. The latter is a free-to-play title, while the former is guaranteed to at least have a live service model.
The new game will be revealed Monday at 11 a.m. PT/8 P.M. CEST.
