Ubisoft's 'Assassin's Creed: Origins' Leaked In New Image
An off-screen image of an upcoming “Assassin’s Creed” game has leaked online, with reports claiming that the new entry into the franchise will be called “Assassin’s Creed: Origins.”
The off-screen image of “Assassin’s Creed: Origins” was posted on Reddit by a user with the handle “shoutouttoashraf.” The username is speculated to be referring to Ashraf Ismail, a Ubisoft employee that also worked on “Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag” and is also known to be working on the still-unannounced game, according to Eurogamer. A source has also confirmed to the gaming news site that the leaked image is legitimate.
The leaked photo shows a player character on a wooden sailboat. The character appears to be holding a bow, while he carries a shield and quiver on his back. The photo is a bit blurry, but since some code is present on the screen, this is most likely a developer build of the game.
The character riding a sailboat is also significant in the franchise. In 2015’s “Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate,” players were able to raid ships, while in 2013’s “Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag,” players were able to control boats, as pointed out by Polygon.
“Assassin’s Creed: Origins,” as the name suggests, will be a prequel and will be set in ancient Egypt. On the upper-left corner of the photo it can be seen that the main objective is to “assassinate the crocodile,” while the current goal is to “follow Shadya to Khenut’s Villa.”
Crocodiles were a big deal in ancient Egypt. Crocodiles in the Nile river were considered to be dangerous predators and were soon part of Egyptian mythology. Khenut may also be referring to the Egyptian queen of the same name that ruled during the Fifth Dynasty of ancient Egypt. Shadya is most likely a new character in the game.
“Assassin’s Creed: Origins” was first outed this past weekend by WWG. The site’s sources said that “Origins” will feature a vast open-world experience that will deliver a less linear type of gameplay that’s being compared to “Skyrim.” The game will be the biggest “Assassin’s Creed” in the franchise and will have more emphasis on exploration.
WWG’s report also indicated that naval combat is set to return in “Assassin’s Creed: Origins,” and players might be able to sail way beyond Egypt as boats can travel through the Mediterranean. In terms of the game’s storyline, “Origins” will tell the story of the original assassin’s guild and will feature two main characters.
“Assassin’s Creed: Origins” is scheduled to be revealed at E3 2017 which takes place in Los Angeles from June 13 to June 15. Ubisoft is expected to release the game in fall 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC.
Back in February 2016, Ubisoft confirmed that it would take a one-year break from “Assassin’s Creed” but will return with a new game in 2017. Kotaku reported a month earlier that the 2017 “Assassin’s Creed” game was codenamed “Empire.”
