  • Justin Gaethje literally broke Tony Ferguson's face at UFC 249
  • Undefeated boxing champ Ryan Garcia sends message to both Gathje and Ferguson during the fight
  • Garcia previously claimed he could knockout Conor McGregor in one round

An undefeated boxing champ sent a message to both Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson during their interim lightweight bout at UFC 249.

On Saturday night (May 9), UFC officially made its comeback from a nearly two-month hiatus. As expected, UFC 249 did not fail to deliver as the fights ended up with highlight-worthy knockouts and a spectacular interim title fight.

Gathje was victoriously hailed as the new UFC interim lightweight champion after literally breaking Ferguson’s face. It took Gathje four and a half rounds to dismantle the veteran Ferguson. Gaethje unloaded a flurry of blows in the final round, which was enough for referee Herb Dean to mercifully end the lopsided championship round and declare Gaethje as winner via TKO.

According to UFC stats, Gaethje connected a total of 143 significant strikes against Ferguson, with 100 of these hits landing on the head. UFC president Dana White confirmed that Ferguson incurred an orbital fracture after suffering a brutal beating in the hands of Gaethje.

With no fans in attendance, UFC 249 still succeeded. In fact, even undefeated boxing champ Ryan Garcia was hooked on watching the main event. On his official Twitter account, Garcia kept his fans posted by expressing his thoughts about the fight. The 21-year-old was evidently thrilled over how Gaethje and Ferguson performed that he even said “this fight don’t need an audience,” suggesting that both UFC stars put on a show despite not having the crowd behind them.

Garcia seemed aware that Gaethje was winning and sent Ferguson some encouraging words in the middle of the fight. Moments after Gaethje was declared the winner, Garcia congratulated the new interim champ by sending a little “shoutout.”

During an interview in January, Garcia was asked to predict the outcome of a possible boxing match with UFC star Conor McGregor. According to Garcia, he will knockout McGregor in one round and will not emulate what Floyd Mayweather did during their fight in 2017.

“I’ll KO Conor (McGregor), quick. 1st, 2nd round. I’m explosive. I wouldn’t wait like Floyd. Floyd was waiting to break him down. I wouldn’t do that. I will just get him out real quick,” Garcia predicted.

When asked about what a fight with McGregor means to him at this point, Garcia was confident and quick to respond saying the former UFC two-division champ would be an “easy fight” and an “easy money” for him.

“An easy fight. A very easy check and a very easy fight,” Garcia said.
