UFC: Anderson Silva Goading Dana White Into Making Conor McGregor Next Fight
The status of Conor McGregor remains in the doldrums, but there are some who believe he will be returning soon. And while that has yet to be decided, Anderson Silva is already making it known that he should be the Irishman's next opponent.
The 44-year-old Brazilian mixed martial artist aired his piece on TMZ Sports recently. And while seeing Silva and McGregor in the ring is something, there are also some constraints. That includes the catchweight for both fighters. The Spider suggested that the fight should take place at 180 pounds, meaning McGregor would have to find a way to beef up to make weight. He normally fights at 155 pounds.
The weight disparity alone seems to hint that making a Silva vs. McGregor fight improbable. Further, the former UFC champion does not take kindly being told what to do. While he did mention in the past that he would love to get into the cage with Silva, the conditions for the big clash will depend on what McGregor wants. And from there, one can see the issues that lie ahead.
If there is anyone who can make the fight a reality, it would be UFC president Dana White. Right now, he is more concerned about figuring out if he can convince McGregor to spring back to action. As mentioned in a previous post, White plans to sit down with The Notorious and hopefully knock some sense into his demands - that of which was to get UFC ownership stakes. To date, this remains in the air with no progress.
"It's good money for you, Dana. And, a good challenge for me and Conor," Silva said.
The fact that a super fight like this could rake in millions should appeal to White. But realistically, there are plenty of loose ends. A potential clash is possible but anything concerning McGregor may only gain momentum if his actual status is finally decided. On social media, McGregor did hint at wanting to fight and that was about it.
For Silva, it would be best for him to first focus on Jared Cannonier, his opponent for UFC 237, MMA Weekly reported. He will be taking the ring for the first time in more than six years and will be looking to make an impression.
At 44, he said he is far from retiring. Should he come out on top this Saturday, expect him to call out McGregor and bat for a big fight with some sweet nothings to boot.
