KEY POINTS

  • UFC president Dana White is not interested in making a boxing match between Georges St-Pierre and Oscar De La Hoya
  • St-Pierre has not fought since 2017 but is still under UFC contract
  • De La Hoya may have to look for someone else if UFC stands firm on its decision

Former boxing champion and current Golden Boy Promotions chief Oscar De La Hoya wants to fight again, and most already caught word that he was eyeing a mixed martial arts personality.

His target was officially revealed and was no other than Georges St-Pierre.

However, the only problem is that the UFC stepped in to prevent it from happening.

"GSP" is officially retired and has not fought since 2017. But since the 39-year-old is still under contract with the promotion, UFC top brass Dana White intervened.

A source told MMA Junkie’s Simon Samano and Mike Bohn that the camps of both fighters were already negotiating, but all that got miffed when the UFC reportedly did not allow St-Pierre to accept the boxing match.

It was Triller CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, who first revealed it was St-Pierre that De La Hoya was eyeing for his boxing return match on Instagram.

Before that, Kavanaugh had already called out White to let St-Pierre take part in the novelty fight, stressing that the deal was done and pending his approval.

"It is a big payday for GSP and both he and Oscar's dream to fight each other," Kavanaugh’s post read. "Dana would rather hold back those who put the UFC where it is and why?"

St-Piere is regarded as one of the greatest MMA fighters of all time and has since been linked to rumored cage comebacks.

"GSP" hasn’t competed for a while now, the last of which was against Michael Bisping where he won the UFC middleweight title.

White gave his take on the planned St-Pierre vs. De La Hoya fight and was far from amused.

The UFC president responded to questions when he was asked to comment on the issue publicized by Triller that he prevented the fantasy fight from happening.

“Don't even ask me about these idiots. Who gives a shit? I don't give a shit what they think. You think I care what Triller thinks? I don't even take their calls. This idiot calls me every day, text me every day,” White said at the UFC 262 post-fight press conference.
