UFC Champion Ready To Invade WrestleMania To Hasten Brock Lesnar's WWE Exit
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier is desperate to fight Brock Lesnar and the mixed martial artist even willing to make an appearance in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to ensure it happens soon.
The UFC heavyweight champion had a confrontation with Lesnar last July when the reigning WWE Universal champion barged into the octagon after Cormier’s victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 226. He has made it clear since their face-to-face that he wants to fight Lesnar sooner rather than later.
Lesnar’s last fight in the UFC was in July 2018 when he faced Mark Hunt at UFC 200 with the decision being overturned after three rounds. He has since been part of the WWE and is expected to sign a new deal with the pro-wrestling promotion post WrestleMania.
The 41-year-old pro-wrestler is also not a regular on the WWE roster, only attending select televised events and the main pay-per-view events. Lesnar’s next appearance inside the squared circle will be at WrestleMania 35 when he defends his Universal championship against Seth Rollins.
Cormier, who is desperate for Lesnar to get back into the octagon, has threatened to make an appearance at WWE’s flagship pay-per-view event and cost him his title to ensure he returns to UFC in the summer. There is no agreement over a fight between the UFC heavyweight champion, but Lesnar’s availability is likely to make it easier for the MMA promotion to schedule an encounter this year.
"I don't have a fight exactly scheduled yet, but I got my eyes on Brock Lesnar," Cormier said during an interview with ESPN. "I might go to WWE's WrestleMania and I may go cost him his title over there, so he can hurry up and get to the UFC, so I can beat him here."
UFC president Dana White recently admitted that he is expecting to hear from Lesnar in the summer and revealed both Cormier and the WWE Universal champion are eager to face each other. He believes that their desire to step into the octagon will ensure that a fight takes place.
“Brock Lesnar is doing his thing with WWE," White said, as quoted on Wrestling Inc. "One of the things about Brock Lesnar is, when that guy is ready to fight, he is not shy. He will call me and he will let me know. To be honest with you, I'm hoping to hear from that guy this summer. ... I think both guys really want it, Cormier wants it bad. I know Cormier wants it bad, and Brock wants it bad. So, when two fighters want to fight each other as bad as these two do, I think it's going to happen."
Lesnar’s future with the WWE post WrestleMania remains unclear at the moment. WWE chairman Vince McMahon is keen to keep Lesnar in the company and is likely to offer him a new deal even if he is keen to return to the UFC to take on Cormier in a one-off fight.
