A UFC rising star could be the next fighter to challenge Conor McGregor after a fight with Frankie Edgar come to fruition.

Even though McGregor has yet to return inside the octagon, several challengers are already eyeing to share the cage with him. “The Notorious” is still being linked to UFC lightweight champ Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, however, two top featherweights were recently mentioned as next possible opponents.

In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Australian UFC featherweight sensation Alex Volkanovski vowed to “take McGregor out” as well after winning the belt against current UFC featherweight champ Max “Blessed” Holloway at UFC 245.

“As I said, who wouldn’t want that fight?,” Volkanovski said about fighting McGregor in the future.

“His name is always gonna be up there, (I’ll) take him (McGregor) out as well. I’m talking about pound-for-pound, no. 1, best featherweight of all time,” Volkanovski vowed.

While Volkanovski is confident he can get a shot at McGregor once he get pass Holloway, McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh loves the idea of a McGregor vs. Edgar fight next.

In a recent talk with The Mac Life, Kavanagh expressed his desire to see McGregor go toe-to-toe with Edgar in his UFC return.

According to Kavanagh, a fight between the two former UFC champions were once negotiated in the past but never materialized. And now that McGregor is looking for a great comeback fight, Edgar seems to be interesting.

“I think him and Frankie Edgar would be a great fight. I think it was in the works when Conor was kind of going on that featherweight tear. He’s an ex-world champion, great fighter, Kavanagh revealed.

Kavanagh even said that if he has the right to call the fights, he would have booked McGregor vs. Edgar this year.

“Yeah, if it was me, I would love to see the Frankie Edgar fight this year, if possible,” Kavanagh noted.

In terms of how McGregor would match Edgar, Kavanagh believes that Edgar could be a difficult fight for McGregor. However, he is also confident that “Mystic Mac” will be able to figure it out as he had beaten fighters like Edgar in the past.

“Frankie has a style that’s very difficult to deal with. You’ve got to train very hard for it. But it’s also one we’re somewhat familiar with,” Kavanagh pointed out.

Prior to Volkanovski and Edgar, McGregor was also challenged by a YouTuber named Logan Paul.

According to Paul, he plans to do MMA soon and he should be the next fighter the UFC star should face.
