Returning UFC superstar Conor McGregor received a unique rematch callout from one of his former opponents.

UFC president Dana White confirmed McGregor would make his long-awaited return to the Octagon against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on Jan. 18. With McGregor stating he wants three fights in 2020, some of his past opponents are now presenting their own cases for a second showdown against “Notorious.” One of them is current UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Holloway said a rematch with former two-division champ McGregor could possibly go down if he could return to the legendary “Mystic Mac.”

“If Mystic Mac arrives and if he wants to be like what he was a couple of years ago when he was the greatest mixed martial artist in the world, and he wants to be great again, sure we're going to run in to each other,” Holloway said.

The Hawaiian champ even suggested that if McGregor could get his head straight and be able to get in his championship form, they will “surely” cross paths in the UFC.

“If his mind is right and he wants to be the best, I'm sure we'll run into each other.”

Holloway went on a 13-fight winning streak after losing to McGregor in 2013. Before losing to Dustin Poirier in a fight for the interim-lightweight title in April , Holloway has already been considered one of the best active featherweight fighters in the UFC.

Poirier on the other hand, also wants to avenge his loss to “Mystic Mac.” Last month, Poirier just presented a strong case for a potential rematch with McGregor.

According to Poirier, the rematch with McGregor makes the most sense for both of them at this point of their careers as they both want to get back on top once again.

“I think it would make more sense if he’s trying to get back to the top,” Poirier said of McGregor.

“I was the former interim world champion. Conor’s the former undisputed world champion. We fought years ago, we both had our separate paths and we’ve both done great things. I think this makes a lot of sense. I’m No. 2, I think he’s No. 3. It makes a lot of sense," Poirier emphasized.

McGregor is all set for his UFC comeback. Ahead of his return, he involved himself in another controversy with one of his most notable rival Jose Aldo after commenting on the Brazilian’s move to Bantamweight.
