Former UFC two-division king Conor McGregor's next possible opponent has been named. He is also rumored to be an alternate for UFC 249 lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

It has been several weeks since McGregor made his huge UFC comeback. After finishing Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in 40 seconds, the Irishman has wasted no time and revealed that he is already open to make a comeback in pro boxing as well.

Known for accepting the biggest challenges throughout his career, McGregor has been eyeing for a fight against eight-division title holder Manny Pacquiao and a rematch with undefeated American champ Floyd “Money” Mayweather. However, amid all the talks leading to the both fight, recent reports claim that McGregor could finally get into a second showdown with his UFC nemesis Nurmagomedov.

According to MMA website Middleeasy.com’s “Sunday Morning Rumor Mill,” McGregor is now rumored to be an alternate in the upcoming lightweight bout between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson. However, the website was also told that the UFC is extremely close to finalizing a fight between McGregor vs Justin Gaethje, just in time for International Fight Week.

Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor 2 is a fight that has been attempted many times but has yet to come to fruition.

UFC president Dana White has remained open to the possibility of Nurmagomedov vs. McGregor rematch. In fact, White has said numerous times that he hopes to book McGregor against the winner of Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson. However, White also stated that “The Notorious” has been mulling a return to the Octagon sooner than later.

In a recent interview with TMZ Sports, White said that McGregor’s next bout ultimately comes down to whether or not he’s willing to wait.

“Khabib, if he wins,” White said about who McGregor will fight next.

“But I don’t know if Conor wants to wait for him. We’ll see what happens, Conor might not wait,” White continued.

Should McGregor would really lose patience in waiting, Mayweather has opened his doors for a potential rematch in boxing. The flamboyant American champ recently vowed to give the UFC star another beating as long as he is rewarded with another huge pay day which evidently must exceed £200 million ($258,750,000) – the estimated amount of money he earned from the previous fight.

"Man if they pay I'm there to play. And if they're paying cash Conor, I'll whip your ass... again. I do what I do everywhere, I pick up money I get paid to tell my story," Mayweather said.
