For Jon "Bones" Jones, it has been a rollercoaster ride as far as his mixed martial arts career is concerned. Despite the adversity, the 31-year-old has managed to find a way to get through it, the latest of which is reclaiming the light heavyweight title at the expense of Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232.

His road to reclaiming the UFC belt was not spared from controversy. This included a sudden change in venue due to an irregular drug test that forced the fight to be held at the Forum in Inglewood, California after the Nevada Athletic Commission refused to license Jones over a drug testing abnormality, Sherdog noted. UFC 232 was originally supposed to be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Jones did apologize for the whole thing, adding that it was something totally out of his control via his Instagram account. Aware of the discomfort it left to fellow fighter and patrons, he vowed to come out with a shocker. And so he did.

Jones formally wrested the crown after a 17-month absence, stopping Gustaffson in the third round. He was understandably elated with his triumph, a big reprieve after dealing with all the negative vibes he incurred the last couple of years. Looking ahead, it only seemed normal for fans to know who he wants next. His answer was hardly surprising: Daniel Cormier.

"Daddy's home DC! Come get your belt back," Jones said in the post-fight interview.

Cormier voluntarily relinquished the light heavyweight title on the eve of UFC 232, but he remains the UFC heavyweight champion. Looking ahead, most see another showdown between the two rivals as the logical one to do with "Bones" moving up in weight to challenge Cormier anew, the Bloody Elbow suggested.

Jones did issue a challenge for the light heavyweight title, but it makes more sense and a challenge for him to continue to pursue Cormier with what he holds right now. Cormier did respond, but it seems he is not biting on the challenge issued by Jones. He also downplayed Jones' victory over Gustaffson, highlighting the most recent failed drug test as the reason why he does not think highly of the win.

It remains to be seen if a Cormier vs. Jones would make sense. The latter did win on both occasions, but these were marred by matters outside the cage (i.e. drug-related issues). But seeing that this is one fight, perhaps the only one in this class, the UFC may just pull some strings to make it happen.
