  • Daron Cruickshank is under fire for his racist comments
  • The UFC fighter did not regret his previous remarks
  • He, recently, lost to Yamauchi at Bellator UFC

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter Daron Cruickshank has found himself in the center of a major controversy after the racist comments he made during a visit to Japan, in April, was unearthed recently.

The Mixed Martial Artist (MMA) fighter, who previously took part in the UFC lightweight category, has spent the last few years of his career competing in Japan’s RIZIN Fighting Federation. When he visited Japan earlier this year, Cruickshank made some controversial comments, suggesting that Japanese people eat dogs.

The event, Bellator UFC, made its debut over the weekend where Japanese-Brazilian fighter Goiti Yamauchi beat Cruickshank. Soon after the fight, former UFC bantamweight Andre Soukhamthath took to his official Instagram account to bring Cruickshank’s racist remarks to light and referred the latter’s loss as karmic justice.

“Karma. People need to be exposed… I don’t let things like this slide… It’s not funny and it’s not okay… swipe and you will see @daroncruickshank … Seeing this guy on TUF, I WAS a fan too….was #Asianpride,” Soukhamthath wrote on Instagram.

The comment from Cruickshank was not only unacceptable but incorrect because the consumption of dog meat is not a part of Japanese culture.

And, when Cruickshank was once pointed out with the factual error, he followed up with an additional comment on Twitter, which clearly showed he did not regret his racist remarks.

He lost his last three fights, which were against Yamauchi, Tofiq Musaev, and Damien Brown.

Cruickshank, who made his professional debut in 2008, has also competed for the "UFC: King of the Cage" and was a competitor on "The Ultimate Fighter: Live."

The American fighter, who began training from a very young age, hails from a Martial Arts family. Both of Cruickshank's parents are fourth-degree black belts in Taekwondo, who ran their schools. His father is a former MMA with multiple black belts, while his mother is also a former professional fighter in kickboxing and boxing.
