A beloved Ukrainian actress was killed amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Oksana Shvets was killed when a Russian rocket shelling hit a residential building on Thursday. She was 67.
The Young Theater community announced Shvets' passing on Facebook. She worked with the theater and was a former troupe member.
"During the rocket shelling of a residential building in Kyiv, a well-deserved artist of Ukraine Oksana Shvets was killed," the theater said in a translated post. "Bright memory to the talented actress! There is no forgiveness for the enemy that has come to our land!"
Kyiv Post, an English-language newspaper based in Ukraine, also announced Shvets' death on Twitter. The outlet shared a black and white photo of the late artist and wrote, "The actress of the Young Theatre Oksana Shvets has been murdered in Kyiv during the war."
Several netizens responded to the report on social media. Many grieved Shvets' passing, and some shared their fond memories of her.
"I pray for her and [her] family passing way the school, she was a good teacher, God bless her and family," one commented.
"Such a beautiful, talented life taken away by Evil. So much sorrow in your country. We grieve every loss with you. #Ukraine," another added.
"It is tragic but not more tragic than anyone else that has been killed during the war. A celebrity is no better than any other human," another netizen wrote while pointing out the number of casualties in the war.
Many were also very sad about the incident. One said it was "heartbreaking" and "simply tragic." Another added it was "terrible news."
Russia has repeatedly denied targeting civilians, but many have become victims amid the ongoing conflict.
Shvets was a "well-deserved artist," according to Deadline. She was among the artists who earned a Merited Artist of Ukraine badge, one of the country's highest honors for the performing arts.
Shvets graduated from an actor's studio at the Ivan Franko Theater and the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts. She performed at the Ternopil Music and Drama Theater and the Kiev Theater of Satire.
Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter described Shvets as a "veteran of stage and screen for decades in Ukraine."
