Elliot Page received a lot of support from the people close to him, including his wife Emma Portner, after he announced that he is transgender.

Page announced on Tuesday that he is transgender and his wife is supportive of his decision. The professional dancer and choreographer shared his announcement on Instagram and added that she is "so proud" of the "Juno" star for coming out.

"I am so proud of @elliotpage," Portner wrote. "Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much."

Netflix and GLAAD are also supportive of Page. In fact, Netflix is already in the process of updating Page's name in the metadata across all titles he is involved in that are available to watch on the streaming service, an insider told Variety. The changes would start to reflect on Tuesday.

"So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT! Can't wait to see you return in season 3!" Netflix tweeted.

Also, Page will continue to play the role of Vanya Hargreeves on the Netflix series. The show features a family of superheroes and there are no plans to change Vanya's gender.

Meanwhile, GLAAD, the LGBTQ advocacy group, is suggesting that Page's role in "Umbrella Academy" be recast with a cisgender female actor.

"Trans actors can and do play both trans and cisgender characters. I’m sure Elliot will continue to be brilliant in Umbrella Academy and many different types of roles in the future," Nick Adams, director of transgender media at GLAAD, told Variety.

GLAAD also took to Twitter to praise how Page gave the public fantastic characters on screen as an actor and an outspoken advocate for the LGBTQ community.

"Elliot will now be an inspiration to counteless trans and non-binary people. We celebrate him. All trans people deserve to be accepted," the organization added.

Page's "The Umbrella Academy" co-stars, including Justin H. Min, who plays as her dead brother on the show also dropped a supportive message for him.

"Welcome to the fam, elliot," he wrote adding a red heart emoji.

"So proud of our superhero! WE LOVE YOU ELLIOT!!!" the official Umbrella Academy handle wrote.

“Elliot rules!” Miley Cyrus commented.

Aside from Cyrus, several celebrities, including Kate Mara, Alyssa Milano, Mark Hoppus, Ross Mathews and Olivia Munn also showed their support to Page.
