'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' Season 2 Trailer Teases A New Direction For The Netflix Show When It Returns
One of Netflix’s leading original programs is coming back on April 15! To celebrate, the popular streaming service debuted the first look at the new episodes. After Season 1 of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" built up fan momentum, the new trailer reveals what audiences can expect from the comedy’s return.
Created by Robert Carlock and Tina Fey, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” tells the story of a young woman named Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) who emerges from a bunker after being tricked into living there for 15 years. Eager to make up for lost time, she moves to New York City, where she quickly befriends a slew of outrageous characters as she tries to create a life for herself outside her identity as a "mole woman."
The previous run of the show followed her attempts to right the wrong that was done to her with the bunker, and Season 2 will apparently see Kimmy struggle to make her life work now that she’s the one in charge of it. For starters, that means finding a job. The trailer opens with Kimmy discovering that there’s such a thing as a year-round Christmas store. The character needs a job and has the perfect demeanor to be in the holiday spirit all year, so she turns in an application.
As some fans will remember, the reason that she needs a new job in the first place is that her previous employer, Jacqueline Voorhees (Jane Krakowski), left town to find herself after splitting with her absentee husband. However, Mrs. Voorhees will return in Season 2 and, according to the trailer, she’ll do so with a new mission.
“What’s the hardest thing in the world for a trophy wife to do?” she asks. “Lose the jerk but keep the perks.”
Also returning in Season 2 is Kimmy’s roommate and "Pinot Noir" singer, Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess). While his storyline in the new episodes isn’t really hinted at in the trailer, he’s still heavily featured thanks to fun lines like “Kimbecile” and enthusiastically revealing to Kimmy that she’s starting therapy. Luckily for those wondering what they can expect from Titus when all 13 episodes drop in April, the actor previously spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his character’s upcoming journey.
“[Kimmy’s] optimism, her sunniness and selflessness and being considerate of other people is wearing off on Titus,” he said. “There are a lot of layers to this man to peel off, because it’s not just his false sense of fabulousness. It is protective armor, so we find him having to undo what he has worked so hard to do.”
