Undefeated Female Boxer Says She's Ronda Rousey Of Women's Boxing
Undefeated female fighting sensation Mikaela Mayer has said that she could be the Ronda Rousey of women’s boxing.
Former UFC Women’s Bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey may have been quite out of the spotlight these past few weeks but with the help of the media, it is really not impossible for someone famous to be linked with random stuff.
Just two days ago, an undefeated female boxer named Mikaela Mayer had a short talk with TMZ and what she has to say left boxing and mma fans wondering if she should be taken seriously.
TMZ Sports noted that Mayer was quick to answer “Yeah!” when asked if she could be the ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey of female boxing. Not only in terms of Rousey’s fighting abilities but also in terms of what the UFC turned-WWE star has contributed to the sport of MMA, more specifically, for paving the way for aspiring women fighters.
"Yeah, how she broke down those walls and made women's MMA, a market for women's MMA, yeah, I absolutely see myself doing that for women's boxing," Mayer pointed.
Mayer then followed it up with a more serious statement in which the 28-year-old boxer seemed to speak on behalf of fellow women’s boxing sensations Katie Taylor and Claressa Shields.
"I feel like we all have a duty to show the world and prove to the world that we can be competitive,” Mayer said.
"That we can put on good shows, that we can sell,” Mayer added.
Mayer believes that at the present, women’s boxing has not reached the interest of fans yet the way UFC did and that was made possible by Rousey.
Rousey’s accomplishments in her career and in MMA as a sport is what Mayer is banking into in her hopes that women’s boxing will soon change the story and will be a fan-favorite sport at last.
Mayer is coming off of a victorious unanimous decision win over Lizbeth Crespo and is now reportedly moving close to title shot. The bout was heavily dominated by Mayer with all three judges scoring the bout in her favour 100-90, 99-91, 98-92, Boxing Scene reported.
Now that Mayer is highly expected to fight for the title, it is quite arguable to expect that Rousey could finally notice her and who knows, make a cross to women’s boxing to make a female version of Mayweather vs. McGregor fight.
At this point, Rousey has yet to release any response regarding Mayer.
