Undertaker In Demand For WrestleMania, WWE Stars Challenge Deadman
The Undertaker – real name Mark Calaway – is in demand as the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) heads into WrestleMania month with "The Deadman" yet to reveal if he will be part of the flagship pay-per-view event. WWE has also not spoken about the possibility of the Undertaker performing at the MetLife Stadium in April but that has not stopped current stars calling out the pro-wrestling legend.
The 53-year-old has not been seen inside the squared circle since his loss to Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a tag team match alongside Kane at the Crown Jewel pay-per-view in November 2018. He is not a regular member of the roster and has not been for over a year – making one-off appearances in televised or pay-per-view events.
Looking ahead, the Undertaker has now been taking bookings outside of WWE, but rumors about his departure from the world’s most popular promotion were dismissed. He is said to be still contracted to the WWE but is not scheduled for any appearances in the coming weeks.
The WWE legend is making an appearance at the Starrcast event in Las Vegas on the same weekend as newly former All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) first show "Double or Nothing". The event has a close association with the newly formed pro-wrestling promotion and the Undertaker’s appearance at the event is said to have disgruntled WWE chairman Vince McMahon.
AEW has been making overtures toward WWE stars, who are either out of contract or nearing the end of their deals and McMahon is keen to ensure none of the superstars on the roster jump ship and join the rival promotion. And Undertaker’s appearance at Starrcast has reportedly seen McMahon try to find a way to include him at WrestleMania 35.
The Undertaker is a certified legend, and it was at WrestleMania that he created his legacy having lost just twice in over 20 appearances. And his lack of participation has seen him being called out by a number of current WWE stars, who do not have a fight scheduled for the pay-per-view at the moment.
Moreover, it is not the first time it has occurred after John Cena did the same last year. The 16-time WWE champ’s constant taunts to Undertaker leading up to WrestleMania 34 finally got the Deadman out and he went on to beat Cena in a singles match.
It has begun earlier this year, with Elias becoming the first wrestler to call out the Undertaker when he stated he has “an issue” with the "Deadman". Finn Balor is the latest superstar to admit he wants to fight the WWE legend.
However, the Irishman, who only recently lost the Intercontinental championship to Bobby Lashley, revealed he would rather first reclaim his title from Lashley before calling out Undertaker for a fight.
“Well, I would really love to fight Undertaker at WrestleMania but given the fact that I lost the title on Monday, I think I’m gonna attempt to convince Stephanie [McMahon] who I know is here at the World Games, to get me a rematch against Bobby Lashley for the IC Title,” Balor said while appearing on “The Kris Fade Show” in Dubai.
Balor is representing the WWE at the World Games in Abu Dhabi and he revealed he would also like to be considered in the list of potential candidates for Kurt Angle’s opponent after the WWE legend confirmed he will compete for the final time at WrestleMania 35 before calling time on his in-ring career.
