Unlocked iPhones shipped to Apple stores; to be priced at $649
The weekend rumor that Apple is going to sell unlocked iPhones through its outlets is gaining momentum. The latest strand of the story to emerge is that factory unlocked iPhones have been shipped to Apple stores and that these will be available starting Wednesday.
AppleInsider has also reported that a the 16GB iPhone 4 will be priced at $649 while 32GB model will cost and $749. The report also says the unlocked iPhones will be GSM phones. Users in the US can switch between AT&T and T-Mobile for calling, using the unlocked iPhone 4.
The rumor about Apple selling unlocked iPhone 4 was set off by a Twitter user called @chronicwire who, according to tech sites, has made accurate predictions in the past.
If the prediction turns true, it will be a first for Apple in the US. Unlocked iPhones have been on sale in Europe and Canada in the past.
According to the leak four unlocked models of the iPhone, the MC603 (16GB, black) MC604 (16GB, white) MC605 (32GB, black) and MC606 (32GB, white), will be on sale starting Wednesday.
