Michael Davitt, the man who was dangling from the Tappan Zee Bridge since approximately 10:45 this morning, has been lowered from his perch and taken to shore.

As Davitt, 54, was being lowered from the bridge, he apparently jumped or fell. However, early reports indicate that he appears uninjured as he was placed in an ambulance.

Davitt, a West Haverstraw resident, has continually appeared outside several city meetings. He claims he was wrongfully terminated from his position at the Department of Mental Health.

According to Nyack Patch, Rockland County officials said Davitt was unable to properly perform his duties essential to his job as a Substance Abuse Counselor.

On Twitter, people have been associating the man with the Occupy Wall Street movement. However, the man does not appear to have been protesting in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

Davitt was brandishing a large sign as he hung from the bridge. The sign apparently said Rockland Executive Legislature Coverup Retaliation.
