U.S Open 2015: Leaderboard, Tee Times, TV Channel Finder, Live Stream For 2nd Round
Sweden’s Henrik Stenson and American Dustin Johnson each maintain a one-stroke lead entering the second round of the U.S. Open on Friday morning at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washington.
Both managed to overcome perhaps the most treacherous and difficult course in the tournament’s history with five-under 65s to stay ahead of American Patrick Reed in third place at four under, and a three-way tie for fourth place between Matt Kuchar and Ben Martin.
The 39-year-old Stenson started off the front nine with two birdies in the first three holes, but those were marred by bogeys on the sixth and eight holes with a birdied nestled between. But he’d wrap up the back nine with four birdies on the last five holes.
Johnson, 30, struck early and often with four of his six total birdies on the first seven holes, his only blemish coming on the ninth hole, and he hit par on the final six .
In spite of Stenson and Johnson’s unanticipated ease with this behemoth of a course, the likes of No. 1 Rory McIlory didn’t fare as well. He hit two-over 72 with four bogeys to two birdies, and his putting was the culprit.
"I played well from tee to green," McIlory said. "I thought the course was set up fair. A score in the mid-60s was out there, as you can see with Dustin and Henrik. I thought you could be aggressive here. It's not a game of chess. I just didn't putt well enough."
But no star was mired in as much trouble at Chambers Bay as Tiger Woods. The three-time former champ wrapped up a miserable first round with 10-over 80 with eight bogeys and one double-bogey on the 14th hole. He’s currently third-to-last on the leaderboard.
