The next Grand Slam will have no shortage of interesting storylines for bettors.

On the men’s side, the 2021 U.S. Open is Novak Djokovic’s tournament to lose. For the women, the road to the championship isn’t quite as clear.

Djokovic is the heavy favorite to win the year’s final Grand Slam. Naomi Osaka is the women’s betting favorite, but the gap between herself and the next competitor isn’t nearly as big.

Djokovic has been named the odds-on favorite, meaning he’s given a better chance to win the U.S. Open than the rest of the field put together. FanDuel Sportsbook gives Djokovic -140 odds. Daniil Medvedev is a distant second at +550.

After winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon championships, Djokovic is attempting to become the sixth tennis player ever to win all four Grand Slams in the same calendar year. Djokovic was disqualified from last year’s U.S. Open when he accidentally hit a line judge in the throat with a tennis ball in his fourth-round match.

Dominic Thiem, winner of the 2020 U.S. Open, won’t defend his title because of a wrist injury. Alexander Zverev has +850 odds to win the 2021 U.S. Open after losing to Thiem in last year’s final.

With his victory at Wimbledon, Djokovic tied Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer for the most Grand Slams in men’s tennis history with 20 titles. Nadal is done for the year because of a foot injury, and Federer will miss many months of action because of a third knee surgery.

At +1100, Stefanos Tsitsipas is the only other player that isn’t considered a long shot to win the men’s U.S. Open championship.

Four men have better than +2400 odds. When it comes to the women, 11 competitors are given +2200 odds or better at the 2021 U.S. Open.

Osaka leads the way with +410 odds. She won the tournament both last year and in 2018.

Osaka started the year off by winning the Australian Open. She withdrew from the French Open after one match and didn’t participate at Wimbledon in order to concentrate on her mental health.

Ashleigh Barty is just ahead of Osaka as the world’s top-ranked player. After winning her second career Grand Slam at Wimbledon, Barty is considered Osaka’s top competition with +650 odds.

Barty skipped the 2020 U.S. Open because of COVID concerns.

Aryna Sabalenka, the world’s No. 3 player, is third with +900 odds. Sabalenka has won a pair of singles and doubles titles in 2021. She reached the Wimbledon semifinals and is in search of her first Grand Slam championship.

Iga Swiatek (+1100) and 2019 U.S. Open winner Bianca Andreescu (+1100) are both listed ahead of Serena Williams (+1200). Williams last won the tournament in 2014. The greatest women’s tennis player of all time hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the 2017 Australian Open.

Cori Gauff (+1400), Simona Halep (+1400) and Garbine Muguruza (+1800) are considered legitimate contenders. Karolina Pliskova has +2200 odds, along with reigning French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova.
