‘This Is Us’ Season 3 Spoilers: Randall And Beth’s Marriage Will Struggle

“This Is Us” has set up Rebecca and Jack as the core couple, but fans also think of Randall and Beth being just as stable. However, the two will go through some serious struggles when the NBC drama returns for Season 3 this fall.

“You can see a relationship going through a tough time,” Randall actor Sterling K. Brown told E! News. “They have different needs and different desires at this point and time in their marriage.”

Don’t get too upset, though. Randall and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) have problems, but they aren’t signing divorce papers yet. “They are not going to be apart from one another, but you see the real struggles that it takes for marriage to succeed,” the Emmy nominee assured fans.

So what’s causing trouble? That’s unclear, but some of their issues will stem from Beth having personal issues. Thus far, most of her challenges have connected to Randall and his storyline. However, it seems like the “This Is Us” writers will work on establishing her identity as an individual this season.

“There’s going to be a lot of stuff with Beth internally going on,” Watson told E!. “So, in other words, it doesn’t necessarily have to involve Randall and the kids as much. It’s really about what’s going on in her own personal life — her struggle, finding herself, seeing herself in a different life. What is it to have your core shaken? Your identity shaken?”

Beth’s family will be explored in “This Is Us” Season 3. Kevin (Justin Hartley) is dating her cousin Zoe (Melanie Liburd), which will stir up some drama with Beth, as previously reported. However, the story will also go into Beth’s past in Season 3, even showing her and Randall’s first meeting.

“I think we’re going to start catching up a little bit to Sterling and Susan’s characters meeting, learning more about Toby and [Beth’s] back stories,” executive producer Dan Fogelman said during a “This Is Us” panel with Deadline. “We’ve grown up with this family, but we don’t know what came before for Toby and Beth.”

Fans will find out what came before when “This Is Us” Season 3 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 25 on NBC.
