The Food and Drug Administration announced that a shipment of over a million pounds of baby formula will ship to the U.S. from an Ireland-based company sometime in July.

Food-products company Danone will send about 750,000 cans of Aptamil First Infant Milk Stage 1 formula equivalent to 1.3 million pounds of formula. This will add up to about 19 million 8-ounce bottles.

The FDA said in a statement Friday that the formula is appropriate for most infants but that it “may not be suitable for infants born prematurely, or with a low birth weight, infants who had low iron levels at birth, or infants who are at risk for becoming iron deficient due to illness.”

The baby formula import is part of the Biden administration's "Operation Fly Formula" to address the nationwide shortage.

Vice-President Kamala Harris accepted the latest shipment of baby formula from Kendamil formula from the U.K. on Friday while at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

"Let's be clear, this really is about what should be one of the highest purposes for any one of us, which is to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our children, the children of our country," Harris said.

"There's no doubt there's more work to do. We have seen progress, but the work that we need to do is to continue to move the formula as quickly as possible and get it on the shelves,” she added.
