Utah Man Shoots, Kills Neighbor's Dog For Attacking His Pet Canine In His Backyard
A man fatally shot his neighbor’s dog after the canine stated attacking his pet dog. The incident took place in Vineyard, Utah, last Wednesday.
According to a press release by the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the dog owner called the dispatchers with Central Utah Dispatch and informed that his neighbor’s pet dog had entered his backyard. He added that the canine was attacking his pet dog, a mini Australian shepherd.
Before the dispatchers could reach the scene, the man, his wife and a few neighbors tried to separate both the dogs. Suddenly, the man went into his home and came out with a gun. He asked the others to move away from the canines and shot the neighbor’s dog three times. The canine died on the spot. The man, however, will not face charges.
“In situations like this it is legal in Utah for someone to shoot a dog if it is attacking a domesticated animal or wildlife. This should always be done with due regard for the circumstances, considering the safety of others in the area and the proximity of homes or other people who may be at risk from this kind of action,” the press release stated.
Meanwhile, the man and his wife sustained injuries when they tried to separate the dogs. Their pet too sustained serious injuries but was expected to recover.
