Utility Edison seeks 90MW of wind energy to meet Calif. rules
Southern California Edison, a utility of Edison International, is looking for approval to purchase 90 megawatts of power from a wind farm in Idaho assisted by Goshen, a firm owned by BP Wind Energy; and Ridgeline Energy LLC.
In the deal, Southern California Edison would take all the produced power from the Goshen Phase 2 wind farm under a 20-year contract, the Dow Jones reported citing a Security Exchange filing on Friday.
If approved, construction of the 36-wind turbines farm would begin operations in October 2010.
The state of California established a rule for utilities in which they are required to purchase 20 percent of the electricity they sell from clean energy sources such as wind or solar by the end of 2010. The percentage is expected to increase to 33 percent by 2020.
